OneD Battery Sciences and Koch Modular Process Systems have announced a partnership aimed at the large-scale production of silicon-graphite anode materials. This collaboration is expected to enhance the capabilities of next-generation electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

Founded in 2013 by Vincent Pluvinage and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, OneD Battery Sciences specializes in the development of advanced battery materials designed to improve the energy density and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries. The company’s innovative technologies focus on silicon nanowires integrated into graphite anodes, offering significant improvements in battery performance. OneD’s products serve the automotive, energy storage, and consumer electronics markets, supporting a wide range of applications.

Leveraging Koch Modular’s proven silane gas manufacturing expertise, OneD’s SINANODE technology efficiently converts silane into nano-silicon inside graphite anode materials already qualified by EV cell makers. This partnership will scale up silane anode production by placing a modular silane plant adjacent to a SINANODE factory to process and add silicon inside EV-grade graphite powders from industrial suppliers. OneD and Koch Modular are currently designing the first integrated North American plant to produce 20,000 tons of silicon-graphite anode material per year, enough for the batteries of about 1,000,000 EVs annually.

“Our partnership with Koch Modular represents a significant step towards mass production of silicon-graphite anode materials, essential for the future of EV batteries,” said Vincent Pluvinage, the CEO of OneD. “Their expertise in modular processing systems will be instrumental in scaling our production capabilities to meet growing demand.”

“We are excited to collaborate with OneD to advance the production of next-generation battery materials,” said George Schlowsky, the  president of Koch Modular. “Our modular design approach will enable rapid and efficient scale-up, ensuring high-quality production standards.”

Koch Modular, headquartered in Paramus, New Jersey, provides modular process systems and solutions for chemical processing industries. Established in 1996, the company is known for its expertise in the design and construction of process plants, utilizing modular construction techniques to ensure high quality and efficiency. Koch Modular’s systems are used globally across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and food processing.
