Rebellion Ventures has launched its inaugural fund with $12.9 million of pre-seed and seed capital to back entrepreneurs developing “artificial super capabilities” (ASC) through autonomous operations and AI agents.
Rebellion’s investment theme predicts a shift from passive, intelligence-focused AI to action-oriented capabilities that autonomously drive business outcomes, increasing productivity by up to 100 times and transforming business models.
For example, last year Rebellion invested in the seed round of Ubicept, a Boston-headquartered developer of machine vision technologies that integrate advanced AI and computer vision algorithms with next-generation single-photon image sensors to deliver superior vision performance in fast motion and extreme lighting conditions. In comparison, traditional computer vision technologies, which rely on still frames and CCD/CMOS sensors, struggle with fast movement and poor lighting, resulting in safety, reliability, and accuracy issues.
According to Rebellion, Ubicept’s technologies have the potential to transform machine vision performance, particularly in challenging environments, across various industries including automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial automation.
Rebellion is led by Managing Partner Jukka Alanen, a former senior executive at cloud computing company PagerDuty, with venture partners Dr. Ramesh Raskar from MIT Media Lab and Aaron Aubrecht, a former c-suite executive at cybersecurity provider Venafi.
“We are excited to partner with entrepreneurs who challenge the status quo and reimagine operations and business models for the era of artificial super capability,” said Mr. Alanen. “To help entrepreneurs build this future of productivity, we bring the power of our community of unicorn founders, operators, and experts, and our collective experience and relationships in the industry.”
Rebellion’s new fund is also supported by a network of advisors that includes over 70 unicorn founders and experts who provide their expertise and industry relationships to help scale Rebellion’s portfolio companies.
Rebellion Ventures was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in San Francisco.
